Panama Altieri Geisha Limited Black Label
It has been a while, but we finally have another Geisha coffee in the shop! When I tasted this Geisha bean for the first time I was amazed at how juicy and complex it tasted. Many of the fruity and floral qualities I love in dry-processed coffees I was able to discover in this delicious bean. As I kept drinking, I discovered undertones of chocolate that added the perfect richness and paired beautifully with the stone fruit notes.
About Geisha Coffee:
What makes a Geisha coffee so special? How can it possibly be so expensive? This is the top tier royalty of the coffee varieties. It's a hybrid varietal of the coffee plant that only grows in a few places and scores amazingly well in every cupping competition. This variety has broken records in auction prices in coffee competitions, topping at EIGHT-HUNDRED AND THREE dollars per unroasted pound. $803/lb. Yep, not a typo; this coffee variety costs a lot. We have offered this variety in the past because it is just so dynamic and unique with powerful floral and fruity flavor notes. After sparking in popularity about 15 years ago, many farms that are capable of sustaining it have planted this variety.

Altieri Coffee Production / Farm:
Altieri Specialty Coffee produces the best varieties of specialty coffee, between its two farms located in Boquete; one of the most internationally recognized lands for the quality of its coffee. The Callejón Seco farm grows
varieties such as: Typica, Catuai, and Geisha. This farm is on a property of 45 hectares, located on the slopes of the Barú Volcano, with a height between 1700 to 2200 meters above sea level. The farm is within the National Park, a beautiful natural conservation area, surrounded by a cloud forest that offers its unique and special flavor. They collect the fruits (cherries) by hand-selecting the grains that are just ripe and thus guarantee the best quality.
With the development of the Geisha in 2011, Mr. Eugene Altieri (Don Gene) planted his first plots at 1,800 meters above sea level. All of the seeds were purchased from the Peterson Family and the quality of this coffee is certified by the awards achieved over the years at the Best of Panama. The largest extension of cultivation on the farm is of this variety, due to the great advantages that the specific microclimate represents.
